Fedora hats are medium brimmed hats designed with a C-crown or indentation at the top of the hat's crown to allow for a roomier fit. In most cases traditional fedora hats were made out of felt, but today hats are made out of other materials, including wool & straw.
Fedora Hats quickly became popular in the 19th century. They were especially popular in the urban areas, where men wore fedora hats to protect their heads from weather elements and add a touch or elegance.
During the Prohibition era of the 1920's and 1930's the fedora hat came to be associated with gangsters like Al Capone and the detectives who chased them. In the 1940s and 1950s, famous entertainers like Humphrey Bogart and Frank Sinatra made the fedora hat part of their film and stage repertoire. Three decades later, the fedora played a token role in the Indiana Jones movie trilogy.
